FAQ
Raw Food Questions
How should I store raw dog food?
At Raw Dogs Dorset, we take careful steps to supply quality, nutritional, safe raw food, to the highest possible standard.
As with all raw food we strongly suggest that you:
- Unpack your order as soon as it is delivered.
- Place in your freezer as soon as you can, in the sealed containers.
How do I prepare raw dog food at mealtimes?
In preparation for mealtime, place the container in the fridge to defrost, preferably overnight.
Please be aware that defrosting times may vary depending on fridge temperature settings.
Defrosting at room temperature is not recommended.
NEVER MICROWAVE TO DEFROST AND DO NOT COOK.
Make sure you clean your pet’s food and water bowls after every meal.
Is frozen raw food good for dogs?
Frozen raw food retains all the nutrients that are often lost when processed or cooked.
Carefully thaw your raw dog food to feed your dog a nutritious meal, rich in protein.
I'm new to raw dog food. How do I get started?
Every pet has different dietary requirements and the transition period to our raw dog food can take between 2-4 weeks depending on the type of meal they currently consume.
On day one, substitute a spoonful of your dog's current food with a spoonful of raw food and each day thereafter, increase the amount of raw food until the transition is complete.
If you notice your dog's stools are becoming looser, we suggest you reduce the amount of raw food for a few days to stabilise the stools.
For elderly or infirm pets, please get in touch for expert advice before transitioning.
