How Much Does Raw Dog Food Cost Per Month in the UK?
By Raw Dogs Dorset ·

How much does raw dog food cost per month in the UK? The useful answer starts with three things: how much your dog actually eats, the price per kilogram of the food you choose, and whether you order single boxes or bulk deals. There is no one monthly price for every dog.
For a real UK example, our Southcliffe 24 × 454g mixed box contains 10.896kg of raw food. On 16 October 2026, the complementary 90/10 box is £32 (£2.94/kg) and the Complete-labelled 80/10/10 box is £35 (£3.21/kg). Larger box deals reduce the price per kilogram. These are verified shop prices on the date shown—not a promise that prices will never change.
If a 20kg adult dog follows our calculator's unadjusted 2% adult starting rate, it would eat 400g per day, or 12kg over 30 days. At the current standard mixed-box prices per kilogram, the food used is worth approximately £35–£39. This is an example of food consumed, not a quote for a balanced diet or a checkout total: actual portions vary, and boxes are sold in fixed sizes. We'll show both food used and the upfront cost of buying whole boxes below.
Raw dog food prices per kg: our Southcliffe mixed boxes
When comparing raw dog food online, looking only at the price on a box can be misleading. These are our current standard and bulk prices for 454g-block mixed boxes, checked with the shop on 16 October 2026. All weights are the total food weight, not the weight of one block.
Complementary 90/10 mixed-box prices
| Deal | Total food | Box price | Approx. £/kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 box · 24 blocks | 10.896kg | £32.00 | £2.94 |
| 3 boxes · 72 blocks | 32.688kg | £90.00 | £2.75 |
| 5 boxes · 120 blocks | 54.480kg | £145.00 | £2.66 |
| 10 boxes · 240 blocks | 108.960kg | £270.00 | £2.48 |
These are complementary products. A complementary label means you must check what else is needed for an appropriate overall diet rather than treating the price as the cost of a complete feeding programme. See our guide to Complete versus Complementary raw dog food and browse our bulk raw food deals.
Complete-labelled 80/10/10 mixed-box prices
| Deal | Total food | Box price | Approx. £/kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 box · 24 blocks | 10.896kg | £35.00 | £3.21 |
| 3 boxes · 72 blocks | 32.688kg | £100.00 | £3.06 |
| 5 boxes · 120 blocks | 54.480kg | £160.00 | £2.94 |
| 10 boxes · 240 blocks | 108.960kg | £310.00 | £2.85 |
The numbers above compare prices and pack weights only: they do not establish whether an individual recipe meets your dog's full nutritional requirements. An 80/10/10 ingredient ratio is not, by itself, a nutritional-adequacy certification. Always check the specific product labelling and feeding instructions.

How to calculate your dog's monthly raw food budget
Use this calculation to estimate food used and build a realistic shopping budget; it isn't an individual feeding prescription. Raw Dogs Dorset's personalised calculator starts a mature adult dog at 2% of bodyweight per day when activity is average, body condition is ideal and no neutering adjustment applies. It then adjusts for activity, body condition and neutering; growing dogs use age-based rules, and an owner-set daily amount can override the starting estimate. The blog's adult examples use the same unadjusted 2% baseline and round daily portions to the nearest 5g as the calculator does. This shop starting estimate is not a manufacturer-validated or veterinary feeding recommendation.
- Estimate the daily portion. Use your dog's weight, body condition, activity level, age and the food manufacturer's instructions. If you're unsure, try our personalised raw feeding plan or seek advice from your vet or a suitably qualified veterinary nutrition professional.
- Multiply by the number of days. Daily grams ÷ 1,000 × 30 gives an approximate 30-day food quantity in kilograms.
- Multiply kilograms by the food's price per kg. Then separately work out the actual number of full boxes you need to purchase, the cash paid upfront and any delivery charge.
Example: A 20kg mature adult dog at our calculator's unadjusted 2% starting rate would eat 400g a day. Over 30 days, that's 12kg of food. At £32 for a 10.896kg complementary 90/10 box, the food consumed has an equivalent value of about £35.24; at £35 per 10.896kg Complete-labelled box, it's about £38.55. Neither is the checkout total: two whole standard boxes cost £64 for complementary or £70 for Complete-labelled, before delivery. Together they contain 21.792kg, leaving around 9.8kg for future meals if correctly stored and suitable for the dog's overall diet.
Example monthly food costs for 5kg, 10kg, 20kg, 30kg and 40kg dogs
The table below follows the adult starting rate in our personalised raw feeding calculator: 2% of current bodyweight per day for a mature adult with average activity, ideal body condition, no neutering adjustment and no owner-set portion override. Figures use 30 days and the current single-box price per kilogram, rounded to the nearest penny. This is a shopping illustration, not a universal recommendation: the calculator can give different portions for activity, body condition, neutering or growing dogs, and individual needs may differ. Choose a nutritionally suitable diet and follow appropriate feeding advice.
| Dog weight | Example per day | 30-day food | 90/10 food value | 80/10/10 food value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5kg | 100g | 3.00kg | £8.81 | £9.64 |
| 10kg | 200g | 6.00kg | £17.62 | £19.27 |
| 20kg | 400g | 12.00kg | £35.24 | £38.55 |
| 30kg | 600g | 18.00kg | £52.86 | £57.82 |
| 40kg | 800g | 24.00kg | £70.48 | £77.09 |
Important distinction: These figures estimate the cost of the amount eaten using a single 24-block box's cost per kg. They are not promises of a monthly subscription charge, a balanced-diet cost or the amount you pay at checkout. Most shoppers buy full blocks and boxes, which often leave some food for the following month. Delivery, treats and other dietary components may add to the budget.

How long does a 24 × 454g raw food box last?
One Southcliffe 24-block box contains exactly 10,896g (10.896kg). At 200g per day (our unadjusted 2% example for a 10kg adult), it lasts about 54 days; at 400g per day (20kg adult), about 27 days; and at 600g per day (30kg adult), about 18 days. These are calculated examples based on food consumed, not promises about suitability, shelf life or the amount you'll need to purchase. Your dog's personalised daily portion determines how quickly food is used.
If the dog in our 20kg example needs 12kg over the next 30 days, one 24-block box is not enough. Two standard boxes contain 21.792kg and would leave around 9.8kg after those 30 days. Keep the remainder properly frozen, subject to the product's storage instructions and your freezer space.
Does buying raw dog food in bulk save money?
Yes, where the same recipe is available in a lower-priced multi-box deal. Buying five standard complementary mixed boxes separately would cost 5 × £32 = £160, while the five-box deal is £145: that's £15 less. Five Complete-labelled mixed boxes would cost 5 × £35 = £175 separately, versus £160 in the five-box deal: also a £15 bulk saving.
For larger freezers, 10 complementary boxes cost £270 instead of £320 individually (a £50 bulk saving). Ten Complete-labelled boxes cost £310 instead of £350 (a £40 saving). These compare the same number of boxes using standard prices checked on 16 October 2026. The 10-box offers do not qualify for the separate introductory 20% subscription discount.
Bulk buying isn't automatically the right option. Check you have adequate freezer capacity, are confident the food suits your dog's diet and can use it within the storage instructions. The right amount of food is better value than buying more just because the price per kg is lower.
Complete versus complementary: the price isn't the whole story
When you compare the cost of different raw foods, compare like with like. A product labelled complementary may be intended to be fed alongside other foods to make up a balanced diet. An ingredient split such as 80/10/10 describes proportions, not necessarily all the nutrients required by your dog's life stage. Follow the particular label, and seek veterinary nutrition advice if you're unsure.
That is why we wouldn't claim that the cheapest complementary box represents the full monthly cost of feeding a dog on its own. Our Complete versus Complementary guide goes through the distinction in more detail.
Remember delivery and freezer costs
The cost of the food is only one part of the order. At Raw Dogs Dorset, local Dorset delivery is £3.49 on available Monday and Thursday rounds, nationwide courier delivery starts at £7.99 for eligible postcodes, and collection from Moordown or Blandford is free. Delivered orders have a £32 minimum. Courier eligibility and charges vary by postcode; check our delivery and collection information for the current details.
Plan where frozen food will go before ordering multiple boxes. Raw pet food also needs careful handling to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria and cross-contamination. Clean food preparation areas and hands, follow product storage instructions and protect people and pets from contact with raw meat. The UK Food Standards Agency's advice on handling raw pet food is a useful safety reference.
What about raw dog food subscriptions?
Subscriptions help you plan repeat orders instead of remembering to restock. Eligible first subscription orders may receive 20% off the applicable product price; later deliveries renew at the normal published subscription price. The separate 10-box deals are not eligible for that introductory 20%. Always check the exact price, frequency and discount eligibility shown for your selected product at checkout.
Choosing an interval that matches how quickly your dog gets through a box—and how much freezer space you have—matters more than choosing the shortest repeat schedule. You can explore our mixed raw food boxes or Complete-labelled 80/10/10 mixed boxes and review the available subscription choices on the product pages.
Five sensible ways to plan your raw feeding spend
- Use an individual daily portion. One percentage doesn't fit every dog; the right feeding plan is your starting point.
- Compare £/kg AND nutritional suitability. A cheap complementary recipe isn't a direct price comparison with a nutritionally adequate main diet.
- Work out full boxes and freezer space. The cost of food eaten this month and the amount you pay to stock up can be different.
- Choose bulk deals only when the quantity makes sense. Larger box orders lower the price per kg, but you don't save money on food that is wasted.
- Include delivery and optional extras. Calculate the whole order rather than just the raw mince line.
Frequently asked questions about monthly raw dog food costs
How much does raw dog food cost for a 10kg dog per month?
It depends on your dog's actual feeding amount and the food chosen. At our calculator's unadjusted 2% adult starting rate, a 10kg dog would eat 200g a day, or 6kg over 30 days. The food consumed has an equivalent value of about £17.62 at the standard-box complementary 90/10 cost per kg, or £19.27 at the Complete-labelled 80/10/10 price per kg. These are not whole-box checkout totals, and an appropriate overall diet may require other components.
How much raw food does a 20kg dog eat in a month?
At the calculator's unadjusted 2% adult starting rate, a 20kg dog eats 400g per day, totalling 12kg over 30 days. Actual amounts can change with activity, body condition, neutering, growth and an owner-set daily portion; individual feeding and veterinary needs may differ. Use our portion guide for more context.
Is raw dog food cheaper than kibble?
Not necessarily. Prices vary by brand, recipe, feeding amount and nutritional adequacy. Price per kg alone doesn't tell you the energy or nutrients supplied, so a fair comparison considers the amount actually fed of two suitable diets, not just their packet prices. You can also read our raw versus kibble comparison.
How many 454g blocks will I need in 30 days?
Divide the 30-day amount in grams by 454 and round up to whole blocks. At the 20kg adult example's 400g a day, 30 days means 12,000g. That's about 26.43 blocks, so approximately 27 × 454g blocks are needed if portions are measured as planned. Because our standard box contains 24 blocks, you would need more than one box in this example.
Does 80/10/10 automatically mean complete raw dog food?
No. An 80/10/10 ratio describes a broad ingredient breakdown, not proof that every essential nutrient is present in the required amount. Check the actual pack's nutritional-adequacy or complete-feed statement, life-stage suitability and feeding instructions.
Can I buy a subscription instead of ordering every month?
Yes, where a specific product offers a verified subscription plan. You can choose a supported delivery frequency and see the first and recurring price before you buy. Bear in mind that a 30-day feeding quantity and a four-week subscription interval are not exactly the same.
